VESTAVIA HILLS, Ala. (VHCS) -- The Vestavia Hills Board of Education on Wednesday hired new coaches for its high school wrestling and boys' basketball teams.
Patrick Davis will be the Rebels' basketball coach in 2016-17, and Monterrious "Tee" Adams will take over the wrestling program.
The hirings follow the retirements of basketball coach George Hatchett and wrestling coach Steve Gaydosh, both of whom are finishing hall of fame careers that spanned more than three decades at Vestavia Hills High School.
Davis is currently the head basketball coach at Thompson High School in Alabaster. Davis led the Warriors over the past seven seasons to a 121-86 record with 3 area titles and a regional playoff appearance. He was named Coach of the Year in 2013 by the Birmingham Tip-Off Club.
Davis said Wednesday he was "honored and excited" to get started as the Rebels' head coach.
"We're going to play a brand of basketball that's fun and starts with the concept of being a great teammate," Davis said. "We're going to have an uptempo style and challenge our guys to make our team better every day."
The wrestling program will see the return of Vestavia Hills High School alumnus Monterrious "Tee" Adams.
Adams has been the head coach at Hewitt-Trussville High School for the past three seasons and spent two prior years as head coach at Oxford High School. As a Vestavia Hills High School student, Adams was part of two state championship teams with the Rebels and also won two individual state titles as a wrestler.
Adams said Wednesday that the opportunity to work as the Rebels' head coach was a "wonderful opportunity."
"Vestavia has a great tradition with a great foundation that Coach Gaydosh created here," Adams said. "I hope to bring a new wave of excitement to add to what's already here. I'm glad to be home and ready to get to work."
